Country music star Chris Stapleton joined Meta Platforms Inc. President and Vice Chairman Dina Powell McCormick in Austin as the technology company outfitted blind and vision-impaired veterans with Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses. The initiative aims to provide the eyewear and hands-on training to about 130,000 blind veterans nationwide.
The event Friday at VFW Post 8787, held in partnership with the Blinded Veterans Association, introduced recipients to the AI-powered glasses that can read labels, describe surroundings and provide other real-time information for people who are blind or have low vision.
Stapleton funds a variety of programs supporting veterans through his Outlaw State of Kind fund and regularly performs for veterans groups. The 12-time Grammy Awards winner headlined a free concert for students Thursday night at the University of Texas.
The Blind Veterans Association’s distribution partnership also includes American Council of the Blind, Homes for Our Troops, Lighthouse Guild, National Industries for the Blind, Oscar Mike Foundation and Tunnel to Towers.
