Born near Belfast, Northern Ireland, Ian immigrated to the United States in February 2011. Two years later, he enlisted in the NYARNG  as an 11B Infantryman. After completing OSUT at Fort Benning, Georgia, in August of that year, he was assigned to Bravo Company, 1-69 Infantry Regiment, "The Fighting Irish”, where he served as an Anti-Armor Specialist.

In early 2015, Ian transferred to the TXARNG and joined B Co 1-141IN "Bowie Company” of the "Alamo Battalion.” He deployed to Djibouti, Horn of Africa, in June 2018, earning VFW eligibility and joining as an At-Large Member.

Following his return, Ian became active at Post 8787, "Capital City Post,” in Austin, Texas. He has since served as Post Adjutant, Chaplain, State Convention Delegate, and currently holds the position of Senior Vice Commander.

Ian continues to serve in the TXARNG as an AGR Unit Supply NCO. He resides in Round Rock, Texas, with his fiancée, Jami, his future stepson, Colin, and their small collection of beloved pets.
